Rally Estonia: Rovanpera consolidates lead with a dominant pace on Saturday

Kalle Rovanpera is closer to his third consecutive Rally Estonia victory after showcasing another impressive performance extending his lead on Saturday.

The reigning champion edged his rival Thierry Neuville by sweeping all the nine stages of the day to open a 34.9seconds lead into the final leg on Sunday.

“For sure the feeling is nice. I have really enjoyed the afternoon especially, it has been really nice. The car is working well and these are my favourite stages of the entire calendar, so why wouldn’t I be enjoying them at full speed? A lot of fans as well, it’s really cool,” said Rovanpera.

Although Thierry Neuville was closely chasing, a slow puncture would further dent his ambitions against fighting for victory.

“There’s just a little bit missing to match the pace of Kalle. But without the puncture I think it would have been a perfect day,” said the Hyundai driver.

Further in third is Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi who kept the fight alive to keep the position against Toyota Gazoo’s Elfyn Evans who ended the day in forth.

Teemu Sunnen ended leg three in fifth followed by Pierre-Louis Loubet.

Only 61.08km will be covered in the final leg on Sunday before a winner is announced in Tartu.
