As the battle for Kenya National Rally championship resumes this weekend at Voi Wildlife park, huge changes are expected among top competitors and rally favourites.
For the Kabras team, Baldev Chagger co-driven by Ravi Soni will make a debut in the VW Polo R5 switching from the Mitsubishi Evolution x as teammate Onkar Rai opts to skip the event.
Talking to Hapasport, the multi Kenyan champion shows confidence ahead of weekend’s action….
“we are going as a one car team and it feels very strange not to have my brothers and team mates there. It’s a low feeling not to have them there as we have been together for every single event for about 10 years. off course we shall do this for Tej. He has been a team pillar for us and we will do it for him and to keep the Kabras ,Menengai oil and Aquamist flying as it should be. We have his full support and blessings to participate in this upcoming event. As for performance we always go out to an event to do the best we can, and this event will be no different” Baldev said.
On addition about car switching Baldev said, “For this rally yes we have the R5 and God willing the generous gesture from our sponsors will be carried forward to the rest of the season.
As we have little seat time in this car we shall take it a step at a time and settle in as the stage miles accumulate. As always our main competition will be Carl Tundo and various upcoming drivers in the series. A big chunk of our competition always came from Onkar and Tejveer and we feel very odd not having them here for this event”.
“We firstly are thankful to the almighty for this great opportunity to be behind the wheel of this machine. I am extremely humbled that the Rai family especially Onkar and Tej have given me this massive opportunity to participate in the Voi rally in Onkars Aquamist VW Polo WRC3 winning machine from the recent Safari rally. I appreciate this unbelievable and most generous gesture and look forward to some competitive stage miles in this car. We will keep the Kabras, Menengai oil and Aquamist flags flying. We constantly keep Tej in our prayers for a speedy recovery, he has always been so supportive of the team motorsport activities and a real pillar keeping the team together,” Baldev added.
Carl “flash”Tundo co-driven by Tim Jessop will switch back to their Mitsubishi Evolution x which has been out of action since the Guru Nanak rally where it last appeared being sponsored by Top Fry.
The crew has been cruising a VW Polo R5 in the previous FIA attached events sponsored by MINTI MOTORSPORT and most probably might carry on the remainders of African rally championship rounds as Flash enlightened at the end of Oryx energies rally.
The crews of the FIA young star project of Macrae kimathi and Jeremy Wahome with the their Ford fiesta R3 cars, have also not entered the event and are expected to return in September for the international rally of Zambia yet Hamza Anwar will start Voi rally in the Mitsubishi Evolution x.
The Rally will start and finish at the Voi Wildlife Lodge running three stages done twice each.
