Sensational return of Esapekka Lappi to Toyota World Rally Team

Must read

After fingers pointing at Dani Sordo, Craig Breen, and Teemu Sunninen as a possible replacement for the eight time WRC champion Sebastien Ogier, news imaging shows Esapekka Lappi might have picked the Jada to accomplish Toyota’s mission.

After the Toyota technical director Tom Fowler coming out to say the recruit of a new driver will depend on Sebastien’s decision and influence about his 2022 program, the puzzle is about to be filled in case Ogier has made up his minds.

According to our reliable sources, the once Toyota gazoo Racing Finn driver Esapekka Lappi will make a return to the Jyvaskayla based team of the Japanese brand and race in WRC Finland.

Lappi will start the 5th yaris along side Sebastien, Evans, Rovanpera and Katsuta at his home event rally Finland that he won on his WRC debut year 2017, with the very same car brand.

Lappi made a move from Toyota gazoo Racing to Citroen racing in 2018, where he left to join M-sport in 2019 after Citroen abruptly pulled out from WRC.
In 2020 Lappi went in sabbatical after failing getting contracted by M-sport and has been racing as a privateer in the VW Polo R5 in selected events.

Tom Fowler stretched futher before the return of Lappi news for rally Finland “ Our team principal (Lativala) and Esapekka know each other quite well, I think(JML) feels Lappi would be a good choice. I’m sure they’re already talking.”

Now that Lappi confirmed for a yaris seat at WRC Finland come October, could it be a deal sealed for the 30 years old Finn’s return to TGR and rotate the car with Ogier, or Sordo still stands a chance to join the team. what do you think ?
