Since the shutdown of all sporting activities in March 2020 due to the Corona pandemic outbreak, Uganda had not tempted to organize any motorsport event to date!
After Mbarara Motorsports Club(MMC) and Eastern Motor Club(EMC) organising their events, Southern Motor Club was next in the line to organize its round of the national rally championship.
Unfortunately the event was pushed to 2021 and this will be the continuation of 2020 Motorsport sporting calendar, as it was decided by the sporting commission in conjunction with the federation (FMU).
The club chairman Ponsiano Lwakataka assured Hapasport that, the club is fully ready to stage the event following all the SOPs if the government gives it a go ahead.
“We’re in talks with some media houses to cover the event live in case fans are not allowed” Ponsiano added.
The national rally championship will only have five rounds this year 2021 to get the champions, and greater masaka region will host the opening round yet 3rd on calendar in March from 26 -28th if nothing changes.
